A missing elderly couple likely fell off a Carnival Cruise ship between Long Beach and Mexico, company officials said Friday.

A 90-year-old man and his 79-year-old wife were aboard the Carnival Paradise when it departed Monday from Long Beach, but they could not be found when it returned Friday morning.

Miami-based Carnival said the couple's cabin door was double-locked from the inside with a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the handle. Their belongings remained inside, and the door leading from the cabin to the private balcony was unlocked.

Las Vegas is losing a "special" show

Do you love a good topless revue? If you are still in Las Vegas then this may be one of the last few days that you will have to enjoy one of the most famous ones...

The topless revue “Les Folies Bergere” is hanging up its feathers after 49 years at the Tropicana hotel-casino.

Casino executives announced Thursday that the show will close March 28 to make room for an undisclosed new production.

The closing will leave Bally's “Jubilee!” as the last full-scale showgirl revue left on the Las Vegas Strip.

Showgirl productions have fallen out of favor with Cirque du Soleil dominating entertainment on the Strip in recent years.

“Folies” came from Paris in 1959 and opened under then-Tropicana entertainment director Lou Walters, the father of newswoman Barbara Walters.

Tropicana President Ron Thacker doesn't explain the decision in a statement. He says the casino is “extremely proud to have been part of such an iconic Las Vegas production.”

Bird strikes are a serious threat now...

Talk about unintended consequences. “Bird strikes” — or collisions between birds and aircraft — are increasing for two reasons, according to the federal government’s leading expert on the phenomenon: The environment is cleaner and airplanes are quieter.

While federal authorities have not confirmed initial reports that the US Airways jet that crashed Thursday in New York’s Hudson River hit a flock of birds shortly after taking off from LaGuardia airport, Dr. Richard A. Dolbeer told msnbc.com that such bird-aircraft collisions are on the rise.

"The key thing is that we’ve seen a remarkable increase in populations of many or most large birds — birds such as great blue heron, osprey, bald eagle, snow goose, Canada goose,” said Dolbeer, a retired ornithologist with the Department of Agriculture at the Wildlife Services in Sandusky, Ohio. "These populations are increasing because we’ve done a really good job of wildlife conservation in North America for many species, because we’ve cleaned up the environment, gotten rid of DDT, enacted the the Clean Water Act. All good things, but because of these, we’ve had incredible surges of many species that are hazardous to aviation.
